Core Competencies

The Core Competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social emotional proficiencies that all students need in order to engage in deep, lifelong learning. These proficiencies are intentionally developed during GoingPLACES in order to help students engage in life-long, in-depth learning. 

Curriculum
Science
  • Make observations in familiar or unfamiliar contexts
  • Experience and interpret the local environment
  • Identify First Peoples perspectives and knowledge as sources of information
  • Co-operatively design projects Transfer and apply learning to new situations
ADST
  • Demonstrate an awareness of precautionary and emergency safety procedures in both physical and digital environments
  • Identify and evaluate the skills and skill levels needed, individually or as a group, in relation to a specific task, and develop them as needed
Careers
  • Demonstrate safety skills in an experiential learning environment
  • Appreciate the value of new experiences, innovative thinking and risk taking
  • Appreciate the importance of respect, inclusivity, and other positive behaviours in diverse, collaborative learning, and work environments
HPE
  • Explorer and describe how personal identities adapt and change in different setting and situations
